My name is Donavan Scott and I'm currently serving a 70 year sentence for attempted capital murder. Having completed 29 years and 11 months, I wish to provide you with insight into how Islam has effected me in my rehabilitation and in my personal growth zone during my incarceration.
Holy Qur'an: 5:105 "O you who believe! Take care of your soul"
Allah (swt) teaches us to be accountable by taking care of our own souls. Lying, cheating, manipulation, and indulging in criminal activity completely destroys the soul. However, our souls are precious and priceless pieces of art work deigned by Allah(swt) and He has given it to us to hold and care for it. I acknowledge the severity of my actions and the pain it caused. Since my advent to Islam, it has given me vision and clarity. Islam has given me those first steps in attaining accountability and rehabilitation. Also, I have dedicated myself to a path of truthfulness, transparency and transformation. Returning too prison isn't an option.
Prophet Muhammad (pbuh) said, "seek knowledge".
Over the course of the years I have taken courses that teach accountability and responsibility. Programs particularly Cognitive Life Skills, Cognitive Intervention 2 program (CIP), Voyagers (voyagers facilitator), Toastmasters, Bridges To Life, Quest For Authentic Manhood, House Of Healing, Kent and Priscilla Pate Ministry (KPM) Academy Veterans Program:
1.) Beyond Success/John C. Maxwell series
2.) The 15 Invaluable Laws Of Growth/John C. Maxwell series
3.) (CDL) Commercial Drivers License preparation training
However, change is possible and Islam has helped greatly with that change. I want family, friends and all people to know that our past doesn't define our future. I want to have an amazing life after prison and I'm looking forward to being an asset to the community.
Respectfully,
Donavan Scott
